If you’re a fan of hip-hop, you may be familiar with A-F-R-O, a young rapper with an old-school style and an uncanny ability to freestyle.
What you may not be familiar with is his second YouTube channel, Fro Thizzle Reviews, which is our recommendation for this week. On this channel he discusses media including films, games and movies — horror movies more often than not.
When I first discovered Fro Thizzle Reviews, I had two thoughts: ‘This guy knows his shit’ and ‘Wait a minute, is that the dude from Bitch Ass?”.
I’ve been subscribed to his channel for a while now, and I can confirm that my first impressions were dead-on: he DOES know his shit, and he IS the dude from Bitch Ass.
Fro is well spoken and clearly has a large knowledge base of media to draw from. This makes his videos engaging and interesting, as he sprinkles in facts about whatever he’s talking about. He also labels his reviews that have spoilers, which is a nice touch.
The reviews are rarely over 10 minutes in length, not wasting time with the kind of play-by-play plot explanations that I find a lot of YouTube reviews get bogged down with. He explains his positions well, so even when I don’t agree with an opinion I’m still left with something to think about when rewatching the movies.
Overall, his channel is just a lot of fun if you like to hear horror nerds talk about horror. Too often have I seen horror reviews from people that just don’t get horror, so it’s great to hear from someone that enjoys the gorier, schlockier and goofier sides of the genre that a lot of critics don’t seem to understand.
